About this workshop

Many linguists in the Washington DC metro area share common research interests in Chinese linguistics. Thus we at the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures, the George Washington University, want to bring local linguists together to exchange research ideas, with a view to engender collaborations.

In this workshop sponsored by the Confucius Institute at the George Washington University, each participant has a 20-minute time slot to talk about his or her own research on any topic of Chinese linguistics, followed by a 10-minute discussion.

It is to our delight to find out that all of the participants share some research interests in common, including phonology, semantics, syntax, pedagogy, SLA, language policy and minority languages in China. We have made an effort to put the presentations into smaller discussion sessions that share a common topic. There are also connections between two adjacent sessions. This is a very encouraging fact for us since it is definitely in line with our primary goal of bringing local linguists together to promote collaborations in research.

The working language of this workshop is both English and Chinese.
